    1. I found another online fantasy library story! I'm on a roll here. :) Review first posted at Fantasy Literature:Elaine has just been hired as a reference librarian at a small rural Louisiana community college library in Louisiana. She’s far away from her home and her supportive boyfriend, but grateful for a job in her field at a place that actually cares about being a good library for its patrons. On her third day, Elaine makes the mistake of treating a book casually: she tucks Cults and Sects o [...]

    2. Rating: 3.5 of fiveReally not much to go on but I like the expansion of the Mythos to other parts of the world. Crique Foudre Community College sounds like a great place to hide a library that bids fair to rival Miskatonic's in esoterica. I wonder if the Innsmouth Legacy series that Author Emrys is, or had best be, working on will come to Thunder Creek. I hope so, it sounds like a right handy little bolt-hole for when the awfulness of the world comes looking for the Deep Ones.

    3. Who knew being a librarian was such a dangerous job. I owe my local librarians a really nice Christmas gift.

    4. . . . this shouldn’t have been shelved in the regular stacks. A bit past anything you need to be handling, right now.”“Does it eat your brain?” I felt my cheeks flare again, worse for the knowledge that it showed like a beacon. She smiled. “Not this one, no. But it’s not translated from any human language, and it’s safer to know what to expect before you get into it.”A woman's new job in a strange library begins to leave marks on her. Even though Emry's writing conjures a spooky a [...]

    5. I am particularly fond of Ruthanna Emrys Lovercarftian stories, and I was not disappointed by this one. This is the story of a young librarian that finds a job in a beautiful and mysterious library, with many ancient and forbidden tomes, hidden in the middle of Louisiana. She soon find herself literally marked by a strange and ancient book in the collection

    6. Ruthanna Emrys has a talent for taking the Lovecraft mythos and making it into something new, but equally creepy. This story is set in a library. A library that contains far more knowledge that what one usually expects in books. Our poor protagonist has to figure out whether she's going crazy or did that book actually give her a tattoo?

    7. I normally can't abide writers softening the edges of the Cthulhu Mythos when the whole point is the bleakness, but somehow Emrys is good enough mostly to get away with it. It probably helps that this story is set in precisely the sort of library I dream of finding.

    8. Though I found it entertaining, I'm not sure I really like a Lovecraftian tale where no one dies or goes insane, or at the very least gets scared out of their wits. Felt like the first chapter of a longer story, in fact.
