    1. This is one of the most shocking books I have readA great piece of sattire exposing the viel of "decency" of our history and our hypocratic society"Prajapathikku tooranmutti" this opening line itself captures the essence of this great novelThere are debates over its link to "Emergency" and I would defintely like to believe this would have been an intellectual and creative response to one of the darkest and retrogressive moment of Indian DemocracyMany a connessiours of malayalam literature had gi [...]

    2. What a political satire! Each line carries political allusions. Perfectly fits into the plot of power game in any period of time. A text that has got the innate ability to surpass time.

    3. "'.But know this from me: the frivolous maker of history and the dim-witted subject who follows him into senseless war and death are both seers, chosen ones.'Paraashara asked bewildered, 'Seers, my King?''Indeed so. They rise and perish not in history, but in the great paths of destiny; they put themselves through endless becoming to cleanse the Godhead.''What strange atonement! For the sins of God!''For the fond Play of the Manifest God.'"From the master of modernist aesthetics in Malayalam lit [...]

    5. a classic one I would say. tje faece to express a nation's desperation. it is too odd n strange that makes it a class apart. quite provoking. calm down with the first line itself he said what kinda genre it is. if u can accept it go ahead n read it. or else leave it.

    6. The Saga of Dharmapuri is a dystopian fantasy which gives horrible and nauseating pictures of man caught up in the labyrinth of power politics. It is the by-product of a sensitive mind’s reaction to the proclamation of the state of Emergency by Indira Gandhi in 1975. Vijayan’s imagination revolted against the new tyrannical order prevalent in the postcolonial India, which could ultimately toll the death knell of our nation. All basic human values were subverted and the entire idea of democra [...]

    7. "For whom were the wars fought, and who, in the end, profited from the holocaust?" asks Siddhaartha to every war profiteer. The Saga of Dharmapuri is a dystopian story set in the country of Dharmapuri where people worship the president's excrement. It is the country where men are sent to protect country and their women get raped during their discourse with authority about the 'State and its mysterious ways'. They practice cannibalism of small children and even export young flesh to the cold war p [...]

    8. There are not many dystopian novels in Malayalam. This one is probably the best work of OV Vijayan. It's tough to decipher, and perhaps not to be deciphered completely. The anger, the philosophy, the clever use of language; everything makes Dharmapuranam a significant book. The situations make striking similarities to present political scenario of India as well as the world. It all leads to confirm that fascism is always similar, whether it's during the time of Emergency, World war era or the cu [...]

    9. always suggest friends to read this. the courage the man have to speak against govt. i'm hoping the ministry of utmost happiness a book of this kind. my malayalam teacher used to tell about this book in 9th standard, about a man who rose against Indira Gandhi - and the way the novel starts.--I read it from Tsr Public Library. They have a huge collection of OV works. Tvm library not even come close to them.

    11. kind of '120 days of sodom' in Malayalam. It is a satire on the authoritarian strains in politics and how blind the citizens could turn through fear, bribe and lust.I have to re-read it because on the first read the imagery was too stuffy to get the inferences to the political scenarios it was trying to show.

    12. Dharmapuranam oru kaalaghattathinte kadha matram alla, mattangalkku vidheyamakatha samoohathinte chila adarukalaan. Ava mattamillathe thudarum, "Prajapathiyude theettam" thinay samooha kathirikkunnu. Mattamillathe thudaruka "mattam" matram anenn philosophical fact koodi O V Vijayan velivakkunnu.

    13. A strong political satire in wchich Vijayan relates the human excreta with the cultural wastesicism to Communism, Stalin and especially Indira gandhi because of the emergency period.Vijayan attacked the autocrats.

    14. It has some powerful, eye-opening kind of satire but it also contains some very disturbing images. This is coming from someone who does not consider himself a prude.

    16. dont know how to describe this oneI dont think anyone can write a satisfactory review about it. You have to read it to understand
